As nearly 90% of the workforce works at a job as opposed to being self-employed it is overwhelmingly the most popular method of earning a living. And in our day and time, popularity is, unfortunately the leading factor in acceptance.
Everyone else is doing it…so it must be right. Folks, I like to say, “Right is Relative” and in this case the decision to get a job is relative to the amount of success you want to achieve over your lifetime. According to the numbers, getting a job is the easiest and preferred method…but is it the right choice?
You’ve been led Astray
We’ve been taught all our lives to go to school, make good grades and get a good job. Work at that job or jobs for the next 40+ plus years, saving at least 10% of your income each year. Get a mortgage for a “started house” and upgrade every 5 years. You’ve also got to buy a new car every 2 or 3 years to keep up with the neighbors. If after paying your mortgages, car loans and other perceived “necessities,” you were able to invest enough into a 401K you might be able to retire at 65.
And by retire I mean that between your 401K and a social security check you might be able to live job-free at the poverty level…maybe.
I don’t know about you, but if that is the “American Dream” I’ll pass. Sounds like a nightmare to me!
Believe it or not folks, this is the path that the majority are choosing. Hey, I’m no different. I got a job out of college and have had one ever since. But I’m doing my best to break out of the American Trap.
Truth be told, the trap is obvious. It is simple to identify and avoid. However, once you step into it…you damn near have to gnaw your leg off to escape. You ever wonder who perpetuates the correct pathway to the American Dream? It is the producers, the business owners, the creators.
Held down by Design…the American Trap
In order to keep themselves on top and the money following, they have to keep the sheep in line. They have to have a steady supply of worker bees so that they can realize their dreams. I can promise you one thing. If you are employed you are 100% guaranteed to be making dreams come true…but it is theirs not yours.
So the Big Dogs on top are the ones preserving and perpetuating the approved path to the American Dream. The average worker is being held down by design. Again, the American Dream isn’t a lie. And it most certainly will come to fruition through your blood, sweat and tears.
Think differently and break the cycle
But the realization of the dream is only a possibility for that 10% at the top that choose self-employment. The producers and creators will achieve their American dream through the blood, sweat and tears of the employee.
Now take your pick. Do you want to realize the American Dream or be confined to the drudgery of the American Trap? Keep in mind that the deck is stacked against you. The pie can only be cut in so many pieces and none of the current money-makes want their share to be diminished.
But making the decision to build your own future instead of theirs is the first and hardest step.
