In a previous articles, we have examined how building belief in ourselves and our goals is the secret ingredient to success. I’m here today to explain how another ingredient can be the difference between realizing your goal or shipping it off to Someday Isle.
These two ideas go together like beer and peanuts, hot wings and football. On one hand you’ve got to convince yourself it will happen. Secondly, in order to virtually guarantee you get what you want you’ve got to convince others to believe in you and your goals.
This is more an extension of self-belief than a new idea…and since everyone at Rule Your Reality already believes in their-selves we know it is possible. Only when you are confident that when you ask for a favor, or go for the close, ask for a vote or ask someone to invest in your business that the answer is yes will you be the Smartest Man in the Room.
There is a difference between being the smartest man in the room and proving it. Never try to be or make it obvious you are the brightest in attendance. It is obnoxious and a turn off.
General confidence is one thing, but when you can look someone in the eye and immediately transfer your total belief to them….that is the confidence I am talking about! Starting out, it is an absolute must you believe that you are the baddest SOB in the room, but you are on a whole new level when others believe it to.
Power of Persuasion
Can you take a proposal to a complete stranger and have them walk away saying, “Damn, that Cat knows his stuff!” Can you thoroughly explain your positions and ideas with passion and excitement? Even if someone doesn’t agree with your point of view or if they aren’t buying what you are selling can you converse intelligently to the point that they understand your point of view.
While I certainly don’t condone badgering and berating someone who disagrees, it is still a good exercise in bringing someone around to your point of view. And that is the bottom line. Whatever you might be selling, in order to generate consistent and ever increasing sales you must continue to convert new prospects. And the basis of converting is to bring someone around to your point of view.
If you are truly the Smartest Man in the Room, you won’t come off as a cocky douche bag. People won’t avoid you like a used car salesman. Instead you will attract attention, people will be interested in you and what “you’ve been up to.” If you look and act successful, others will be attracted to you and they will want to share your point of view.
You are exuding the confidence and traits they would like to see in themselves. Since they can’t seem to get ahead and since they hate their job and their boss and their bills, the 2nd best thing, to them at least, is to befriend someone who has it going.
Since they can’t seem to kick any ass they want to connect with someone that does.
Because they haven’t figured out how to do it themselves, most people are instead attracted to the those who have…the confident and successful. If you believe in yourself and act and look the part, you will have no problem 1) talking to new prospects and 2) converting them to your point of view. When these two things become 2nd nature, you will, without a doubt, be the Smartest Man in the Room.
